Obituary for Donald "Don" Daniels Donald G. Daniels died unexpectedly in his home on January 9, 2015 at the age of 63. He is survived by his wife, Pamela K. Daniels of Port St. Lucie; brother, Joseph T. Daniels of Covington, OH; son, Matthew J. Daniels of Ann Arbor, MI; son, Chad Wedekind of Jacksonville, FL; and grandson, Cole Wedekind of Kansas City, MO. He is preceded in death by both parents, Harry J. and Dorothy H. Daniels of Fort Pierce, as well as his brother, Henry A. “Hank” Daniels of Goldsboro, NC. Don was born March 22, 1951 in New York City to Harry J. and Dorothy H. Daniels. He attended St. Benedict and St. Simon Stock Schools in the Bronx and graduated from Dan McCarty High School after the family moved to Fort Pierce in 1966. He attended Florida Atlantic University and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1976, Donald met, dated, and married the love of his life, Pam, while working as a road patrol deputy for the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department; he left the SO in 1985 at the rank of Corporal. Shortly thereafter, Don began working for the St. Lucie County Department of Public Safety, where he spent the next 21 years. He first served the county as the Radiological Officer before being promoted to Emergency Management Coordinator, a position he maintained until retirement in 2006. In 2005, he was awarded the distinguished honor of being named National Emergency Management Coordinator of the Year by the National Hurricane Center for his handling of the 2004 hurricanes Frances and Jean. A public viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, January 13 from 5-7 P.M. at Yates Funeral Home and Crematory in Ft. Pierce. A prayer service celebrated by Father Tom Johnson will immediately follow at 7 P.M. The family will host a celebration of life get-together at Donald’s residence on Wednesday at noon. All are invited and encouraged to attend. Flowers and condolences may be sent to Yates Funeral Home.

Don was an excellent friend and brother....he would give you the shirt off his back, and you knew he always had your back.  RIP.
