John died in 2002 at the age of 51.  He was a cable veteran for more than 30 years.  He worked his way up through the ranks, publishing several papers in journals and helping to develop new designs on equalizer circuitry along the way.  His last job was as a region engineer for Adelphia in Florida.  He was survived by his wife Joy and three children Brian, Linette and Christopher.
